Story Behind Govardhan Puja
In Vishnu Puran, it is mentioned that Govardhan Parvat, which is a long-length mountain, is called Kings of Mountain; this is located in Braj. In dwapar yuga, all peoples of Vrindavan worship Lord Indra on this day for thanking God to give them all the natural resources. One day Lord Krishna saw all this and said to the villagers that the Gordhan Mountain was the reason for all these resources. All the villagers were angry with Little Krishna. They all went to worship Goverdhan Parvat. Lord Indra saw all this and became angry; he started heaving rain in Vrindavan. Then on this day, Lord Krishna lifted the Goverdhan Mountain on his small finger. Lord Krishna lifted the mountain for 7 days because Indra rained very heavily for 7 more days. Later, Indra apologized to Lord Krishna. From that day on, this festival was celebrated to worship Lord Krishna and Goverdhan Parvat.
