Janmashtami, the birthday of Lord Krishna, is celebrated like other festivals where people pray for god, make delicious food, and decorate temples and homes. On this day, people gather in temples at night to perform pooja.
Janamastmi Pooja Vidhi is different from other festivals because it is celebrated for only 1 day. Janamastmi is celebrated on night. On this day, Hindu god Krishna was born in prison of Mathura, because his uncle wanted to kill him after birth. His father put him in a basket and float it on the Yamuna River. Later, Lord Krishna was reached on Vrindavan and got found by the head of the village, Nandaba. From that time, this day is celebrated as Janmashtami.
The celebrations and aarti were performed at 12:00 in the night. Janmashtami is celebrated on the eighth day of Hindu month Bhadrapada. This is a major Hindu festival celebrated all across India. On this day, the dahi handi festival is also celebrated in Maharashtra and Gujarat. A big pot of sweet curd hangs in the sky 20–30 feet above land, and then people stand on round ways one above another to break it for making Lord Krishna happy.
